Fabiola Vargas Londoño is an advanced doctoral student in the Autism and Developmental Disabilities program and a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Fabiola's research interests include (1) adapting Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) interventions to increase involvement of culturally diverse parents during in-home therapy, and (2) studying the challenging behaviors displayed by individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) to prevent treatment relapse. Fabiola, a native of Mexico, studied Psychology in Mexico and Spain and holds an M.Ed in Special Education from UT Austin. She has over a decade of experience working with low-income minority families with children with ASD.

Fabiola Vargas Londoño está certificada como Analista de Conducta Certificado (BCBA) y actualmente cursa el doctorado en el programa de Autismo y Discapacidades del Desarrollo. Sus intereses de investigación versan sobre el entrenamiento a padres de familia, en particular en la adaptación de intervenciones de Análisis Aplicados de la Conducta (ABA). El fin de dicha adaptación es aumentar la participación de familias de diferentes culturas durante las terapias proporcionadas en el hogar. Sus investigaciones también se han concentrado en la prevención de las recaídas en el tratamiento cuando se presentan comportamientos desafiantes en individuos con Trastorno del Espectro Autista (TEA). Fabiola tiene más de una década trabajando con familias minoritarias de bajos recursos que tienen un hijo o hija con TEA. Fabiola, originaria de México, estudió psicología en México y España y la Maestría en Educación Especial en UT Austin.

Research

My research interest in Autism Spectrum Disorder and developmental disabilities are:

  1. Applied research: In-home Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) therapy; adapting interventions to increase involvement of culturally and linguistically diverse families.
  2. Translational study: Methods to prevent clinical relapse, resurgence, renewal, and problem behaviors.

I am an Assistant Instructor in the Autism and Developmental Disabilities program of the Department of Special Education at The University of Texas at Austin. I teach a course in Autism in Spanish. See news coverage by The Daily Texan.

Autism Spectrum Disorders – SED 378T

Familiarize yourself with the approaches and strategies that improve the lives of people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). You will use research to examine the beliefs and conceptions of ASD in Spanish-speaking communities. Explore how ASD is experienced in various Speaking-speaking countries and how to best translate the results of research into everyday language and practice. This course fulfills a global cultural flag requirement.
